Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) Training and Membership

Mr. Owen has been accepted as a member of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) and recently completed their Industry Roadside Inspection Course – Vehicle Requirements. The focus of the week-long training was on commercial motor vehicle inspections and identifying out-of-service conditions. The course also covered the relationship between the federal regulations found in 49 CFR 393, 396 and Appendix…

New Visualization Software Added – Major Update to Services Provided

FARO Zone 3D is a new forensic investigation software program that we have recently purchased which allows us to create 2D and 3D visualizations from virtually any measurement source including Google maps, manual measurements, data from total stations and point cloud data from drones and laser scanners.  The vehicle positions match exact data points for an accurate visualization. The improved…

Next Generation of Crash Data Retrieval Tools

Crash Response has purchased the Bosch CDR 900, the latest technology for retrieving crash data stored in airbag control modules, pedestrian protection ECUs and GM’s active safety control modules. It is the  most current CDR platform going forward, requiring new hardware and software. The new system is essential for the support of new model vehicle years and EDR (event data…

New ECM Download Technology Added

Crash Response has recently purchased a Forensic Link Adapter which augments our ability to image ECM data from heavy trucks. It is specifically designed to produce forensically sound records from heavy vehicle event data recorders. Most significantly, the Forensic Link Adapter contains a hardware write-blocker which prevents alteration of the ECM data. It also has automatic strong encryption of forensic…

Motorcycle Crash Investigation Training

Mr. Owen recently completed the Investigation of Motorcycle Crashes course offered by the Institute of Police Technology and Management through the University of North Florida. The course is offered to experienced traffic crash investigators. Topics discussed during the five day course included: Analyzing and interpreting the motorcycle crash scene Determining acceleration and deceleration characteristics of the motorcycle Analyzing and interpreting…

Crash Response Adds V-Stroke Meter to Measure Airbrake Push Rod Travel

A large number of heavy trucks involved in crashes have airbrakes that are out-of-adjustment resulting in decreased braking ability. Reconstructing a crash involving a truck with airbrakes involves measuring  the airbrake pushrod travel in each brake to determine if the brakes were in or out-of-adjustment. A tractor-trailer will likely have at least ten brakes that need to be measured. Rather…

CDR Software Updates – Lamborghini

The latest version of Bosch CDR software was just released.  This software gives Crash Response the ability to download the Airbag Control Module from the Huracan and Aventador models from Lamborghini. If you or your client/insured was unfortunate enough to crash a Lamborghini, we have the ability to download the ACM data. Seriously.

Laying It Down… Not a Good Option for a Motorcyclist

It is that time of year again and you will be sure to hear “I laid it down” when you are dealing with a motorcycle crash. You will usually hear this phrase from an untrained/incompetent motorcycle operator who will not admit that he or she lost control due to improper operation of the motorcycle. Over-braking, using the rear brake only,…

New Service – ABS Diagnostics for Heavy Trucks and Trailers

Crash Response now has the software and hardware to provide diagnostics of the Anti-lock Brake Systems of truck tractors and trailers. ABS systems from Merritor Wabco, Bendix, Wabash, Haldex and Eaton can be evaluated. The purpose of an ABS system is to keep the brakes on a vehicle from locking. A locked wheel can cause the vehicle to lose directional…

Differences Between a Passenger Vehicle and a Heavy Truck Event Data Recorder (EDR)

In a passenger car or light truck / SUV, the EDR is contained within the Air Bag Control Module (ACM). Any data retrieved from this module is related to a sudden deceleration most likely caused by a crash. Therefore, the data usually relates to the crash event in question. The EDR for a heavy vehicle such as a truck tractor…
